The Museum of Flight and Aerial Firefighting at South Big Horn County Airport in Greybull, Wyoming, preserves the history of aerial firefighting through aircraft and the story of Hawkins and Powers Aviation, founded there in 1969. Some exhibits came from the airport’s large airtanker boneyard and were gathered when a small museum opened in 1992. Its origins were shaped by a troubled era in the industry, including the U.S. Forest Service airtanker scandal and the 2002 crashes that killed flight crews, grounded the company’s fleet, and preceded the sale of the business in 2006. It preserves a practical and perilous chapter of aviation history.
