This spot is the crossing of the Michigan Meridian and the West Line of the 1807 Treaty of Detroit. In October 1815, Deputy Surveyor Benjamin Hough, Alexander Holmes, and 11 crew members passed through here as they surveyed north from Fort Defiance to the Michigan Baseline, roughly 60 miles north.
