Shaw Gap is a protected wildland in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of southwestern Virginia, within the Mount Rogers Cluster between the Feathercamp wild area and the Seng Mountain National Scenic Area. Centered on Iron Mountain, it includes the Iron Mountain Trail, which once carried the Appalachian Trail and helped preserve corridors of older trees. The area is known for wildlife, trout streams, scenic beauty, and remains of an old homestead. Old-growth tracts survive on both sides, while overgrown logging roads and railroad grades from the early twentieth century still cross the forest. Despite lacking inventoried roadless status, Shaw Gap remains a notable conserved landscape.
