Pride Flag
History
4
The original Pride flag created in 1978 by Gilbert Baker symbolized visibility, inclusion and pride for all members of the LGBTQ community. In 2018 designer David Quasar added a five colored chevron to the classic rainbow flag to place a greater emphasis on inclusion and progression. This flag includes black and brown stripes to represent marginalized LGBTQ communities of color along with the colors pink, light blue and white which represent our transgendered brothers and sisters. Straight allies join in flying this life affirming symbol as the fight continues for justice and yet to be realized equal protection under the law, and the LGBTQ members of the Village of Athens and their allies stand together to say all are welcome here.
