Francisco Sanchez, born in 1805 and died in 1862, served as alcalde of San Francisco and commandante of militia under the Mexican Republic, received the 8,926-acre Rancho San Pedro grant, and later became a respected American citizen. His house was built from 1842 to 1846. It was later owned and remodeled by General Edward Kirkpatrick, and in 1947 the County of San Mateo purchased it for preservation as a public museum.
