Paul Carrington was a member of the House of Burgesses from 1765 to 1775, of the Virginia conventions from 1774 to 1788, including the Constitutional Conventions, and of the first Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia. He was a founder of Hampden-Sydney College. He lived and is buried at nearby Mulberry Hill.
