Park Theatre in Estes Park, Colorado, opened in 1913 and remains the oldest operating cinema in the western United States, continuing year-round as both a movie house and event venue. Designed by Joseph R. Anderson, it was partly built in Longmont and assembled in Estes Park, changing owners even before completion. Its most recognizable features were added under owner Ralph Gwynn, who installed a lobby in 1922 and the theater’s signature tower in 1929; neon lighting added in 1938 made it a local landmark. Later repairs, modernization, preservation efforts, and National Register listing in 1984 helped secure its continued use.
