Kermit
History

Kermit is the county seat of Winkler County. The county was organized in 1910, and Kermit was incorporated in 1938. It was named for Kermit Roosevelt, son of President Theodore Roosevelt, who had visited a local ranch. Winkler County is one of the top oil and gas producing counties in the state. Kermit is also a ranch center and a gateway to New Mexico.
