Near North Bend in southwestern Ohio, Mount Nebo is a forty-acre archaeological district with two contributing properties: a large site and a Native American mound. In the Ohio and Miami river country, fertile land, abundant food, and easy transportation made this area attractive for settlement and travel in the pre-Columbian era. Artifacts from both the Archaic and Woodland periods show that people used the area thousands of years apart rather than in a single occupation. Long visited by amateur archaeologists because objects were often visible on the surface, Mount Nebo is considered one of the most valuable archaeological sites in southwestern Ohio and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
