Van Tran Flat Bridge, a wooden covered bridge over Willowemoc Creek near Livingston Manor in Rockland, New York, was built in 1860 by John Davidson and is the oldest surviving covered bridge in Sullivan County. Built for everyday travel on a local road, it is a single-span town lattice truss bridge later strengthened with a laminated arch system. After flood and vehicle damage and changes to its abutments, it was closed in 1972 and restored beginning in 1984 with traditional construction methods before reopening in 1985. Still county owned and open to cars, it is recognized as one of New York’s 24 authentic historic covered bridges.
