In December 1812, after the Battle of Mississinewa, those leaving the battlefield showed courage in protecting their culture and compassion in embracing one another. Following the battle, the American commander ordered that captured horses be ridden by Native American women and children, sparing them some of the hardship of the winter march from the Mississinewa to Ohio as one era concluded and a new journey began. It is dedicated to all who died in the Battle of Mississinewa on December 17-18, 1812.
