Integratron
Lore
1
The Integratron, a cupola building in Landers in California’s Mojave Desert near Joshua Tree, emerged from the region’s mid-20th-century UFO culture through the ideas of George Van Tassel, a former aircraft mechanic and flight inspector. After claiming contact with beings from space in 1953, he built the structure between 1954 and 1959 as a non-ferromagnetic device he believed could rejuvenate cells through magnetic fields, plasma effects, and ionization. Supported by donations and Giant Rock Spacecraft Convention proceeds, the project continued until his death in 1978. In the early 2000s, the Karl sisters revived the site as an acoustics-based attraction known for sound baths, and it joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
