The Columbiad Cannon of 1850 was last on duty at Fort Point on San Francisco Bay. The Grass Valley Women’s Improvement Club arranged with the U.S. War Department for its donation to be placed in City Square, now Dow Alexander Park. It was transferred from Benicia Arsenal to this site in 1911. It is the only known example of its type to exist and weighs 9,100 pounds.
