California’s oldest hotel in continuous operation, the Holbrooke Hotel preserves century-old archives bearing the names of such notables as Presidents Grant, Harrison, and Cleveland; authors Mark Twain and Bret Harte; boxers Corbett and Fitzsimmons; actor Gilbert Barry; and highwayman Black Bart. The present structure was built in 1862 following a famous fire.
