In 1915 the lower floor of this building housed the Bank of Winnfield, whose president was George P. Long Sr., while Huey P. Long, having passed the bar exam that year, chose the upper floor as his law office. While practicing there, Attorney Long represented Mrs. M.E. DeLoach in a civil suit against the Bank of Winnfield, and he and Mrs. DeLoach won the case, greatly upsetting the bank president, Uncle George. Huey P. Long later served as Governor of Louisiana from 1928 to 1932 and as a U.S. Senator from 1930 until his assassination in 1935.
