For nearly 100 years, the Jorgens family lived and worked the land that is now Jorgens Park Preserve. Through contributions from the communities of Scandinavia and Iola, the property was purchased from the Jorgens Estate. Friends of Jorgens Park Preserve was formed in 2011 to fulfill the Jorgens family's desire to leave the land undeveloped for public enjoyment, and volunteers continue to enhance it for public use and enjoyment. Carsten wanted the property to remain undeveloped despite numerous offers to purchase it, and Dora and Carsten are remembered through a place where people can enjoy views over Silver Lake, fields of flowers, and abundant wildlife in the surrounding fields and woodlands.
