Rifle Camp Park is a 225-acre county park on Garret Mountain in Passaic County, mostly in Woodland Park with part in Clifton. Created from land once owned by Paterson silk mill owner Catholina Lambert, it passed to Passaic County after her death and was developed from 1929 to 1934 under Olmsted Associates. Its name reflects Revolutionary War use of the area as a lookout for George Washington’s troops and a brief camp of Major James Parr’s rifle corps near the Great Notch. With forests, trails, cliffs, and scenic views, it remains an important regional green space for recreation, nature study, and local history.
