Surveyors’ maps of 1824 and 1846 of Tipton County marked the Indian Portage Trails through Tipton at the junction between the Indiana waterways, showing routes toward the Wabash River waters by the Kokomo Trail to the northwest and the Peru Trail to the northeast, and toward the White River waters by Strawtown to the southeast.
