Built in 1927, the Memorial Building honored Hinsdaleans who served in war and paid tribute to soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Funding came from grateful Hinsdaleans, and the building became a historic landmark and the centerpiece of the village. At the heart of Hinsdale, the Memorial Building grounds and plaza served as the village's front lawn for nearly a century. In 2023, during Hinsdale's 150th anniversary of incorporation, the outdoor plaza was renovated and revitalized through the generosity of many donors. In 2024, Thomas Cauley, president of the Village of Hinsdale, along with the Board of Trustees, dedicated the plaza to Hinsdale's brave soldiers and to the countless residents, community leaders, organizations, and businesses that contributed to the village's heritage.
