Egypt Valley Wildlife Area is a fourteen thousand three hundred-acre protected landscape in northwestern Belmont County, Ohio, formed from former surface-mining land. Its steep high walls, backwaters, and irregular strip-pit ponds reflect an era when massive machines such as the GEM of Egypt and the Mountaineer worked the coal fields, a period that largely ended in the early 1990s. Managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources since the mid-1990s, the area has long drawn local people for fishing, hunting, camping, and exploration. Also called Egypt Bottom, it is further associated with Salem Cemetery, where local folklore surrounds the grave of Louiza Fox.
