In 1950, the old street lights were torn down and replaced with cement posts, which were later replaced during redevelopment in 1967. In the 1980s, all the street lamps were removed and replaced with just nine 60-foot-tall, stadium-style masts, but as the trees grew, they blocked the lights and cast huge shadows on the streets at night. In 2005, the MSPA lobbied the city of Glendale to replace those lights with reproductions manufactured from the same molds as the original Montrose street lamps.
