Atwood Village originally stood at this intersection. Although the plat was never recorded, baptismal records from the United Presbyterian Church dated 1834 indicate that Atwood was a thriving village at that time. It continued to prosper until the railroad was built in 1878, shifting village business to that site, now covered by Atwood Lake.
