Richard Childress Racing Museum
Pop Culture
Opened in May 2003 in Richard Childress Racing’s former workshop in Welcome, North Carolina, this museum preserves the history of one of NASCAR’s most successful teams in the very building where it won six Cup Series championships and 58 races. It traces Richard Childress’s driving career and the team’s rise through a collection of more than 50 race cars, anchored by the world’s largest group of Dale Earnhardt’s black No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolets, including his 1998 Daytona 500 and 1995 Brickyard 400 winners. The preserved shop spaces, Childress’s office, and cars from other RCR drivers connect the collection to multiple eras of the organization’s history.
