Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, North Carolina, grew from colonial-era landholdings along the Yadkin River into a major public recreation area blending historic estate grounds with golf, gardens, lakes, trails, and other amenities. Its history includes William Johnson’s 1757 purchase, his wartime fort, the 1809 church, the Manor House built in 1859, and the transformation of the estate under William Neal and Kate Reynolds in the early 20th century. Given to Forsyth County in 1951 and opened as a park in 1954, it later underwent desegregation after a federal court case. It is also known for championship golf and the popular Festival of Lights.
