Mount Blue Sky
Nature
Mount Blue Sky is a prominent Colorado fourteener in the Front Range whose height, broad massif, and deeply glaciated cirques make it a defining feature of the western skyline and a notable alpine landscape. Long connected to dozens of tribes, it later became artistically significant through Albert Bierstadt’s 1863 sketches and paintings and scientifically documented by William Henry Jackson with the Hayden Survey. Much of the area is protected wilderness, with Echo Lake and Summit Lake tied to Denver’s mountain parks and a scenic byway reaching near the summit. Formerly called Mount Evans, it was officially renamed in 2023 after debate over John Evans’s role in the Sand Creek Massacre.
