James Emory Foxx played for the Philadelphia Athletics (A.L.) from 1925 to 1935, the Boston Red Sox (A.L.) from 1936 to 1942, the Chicago Cubs (N.L.) in 1942 and 1944, and the Philadelphia Phillies (N.L.) in 1945. Known as Jimmy and nicknamed "Double X," he was regarded as the greatest right-handed slugger of his time, hitting 30 or more home runs in 12 consecutive seasons, a major league record, and 534 in his career. His career batting average was .325. He was the first three-time MVP Award winner, in 1932, 1933, and 1938, and he won the Triple Crown in 1933. For the A's, he hit 58 home runs in 1932. Foxx played with the 1929-1930 World Champion Athletics, appeared in 7 All-Star Games, and set Boston Red Sox club records with 50 home runs and 175 RBI in 1938. In 1951, he became one of the youngest players ever inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
