Chapman Peak is a 9,411-foot mountain in Glacier National Park’s Livingston Range in Montana, standing on the Continental Divide. It was named for Robert H. Chapman, a United States Geological Survey topographer who helped map Glacier Park between 1900 and 1904, reflecting the park’s early era of systematic surveying. Like many peaks in Glacier, it consists of sedimentary rock deposited from the Precambrian to the Jurassic in ancient shallow seas. Its present form is linked to the Lewis Overthrust, which began about 170 million years ago. The mountain also lies in a subarctic climate marked by long, severe winters and short, cool summers.
