Dixon Glacier
Nature
Dixon Glacier is a glacier in Glacier National Park, Montana, in a cirque immediately north of The Sentinel and just east of the Continental Divide. About 1 mile east of Thunderbird Glacier, it spans elevations from roughly 8,500 to 7,400 feet above sea level and covers about 59 acres. Like many glaciers in the park, it has shrunk markedly in recent decades. Between 1966 and 2005, it lost more than 45 percent of its surface area, reflecting the broader retreat that has reshaped Glacier National Park’s high mountain landscape.
