Before European settlers arrived, this area was inhabited by the Potawatomi and Chippewa, and the U.S. government acquired the land under the 1819 Treaty of Saginaw. Musgrove Evans, a surveyor instrumental in settling families in Michigan, surveyed Delta Township in 1827 and labeled it swampland. Purchased before 1930, this parcel of section 35 passed through the Olds family when Ransom E. Olds deeded it to his daughter, Gladys Olds Anderson, whose 1966 gift to the Nature Way Association, later the Woldumar Nature Association, contributed to the land's long-term conservation. To preserve Darius Moon's legacy, the Oldsmobile Corporation bought the Moon Cabin and moved it from Canal Road to its present location in 1980, where it helps show students how Michigan settlers in the 1850s lived without electric lights or running water. Moon family ties also extended to the Delta Center Methodist Church, which Darius Moon designed and built in 1873 with local farmers including Andrew Moon; Mary, Andrew, and Fanny Moon were active members, and in 2015 Trinity United Methodist Church donated the bell beside the Moon Cabin to Woldumar.
