From the start of the century until the mid-1920’s, Dawson Springs was one of the best known spas and health resorts in the South, drawing thousands of the sick, the lame, and the well for its curative waters and social activities. Six firms bottled and shipped its chalybeate water all over the US. W. I. Hamby, a resident of Hopkins County, discovered the springs in 1881.
