Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park in the Osceola National Forest preserves the site of the Battle of Olustee, the largest Civil War battle fought in Florida, which took place on the afternoon of 20 February 1864. One of the first parks in Florida’s state park system, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Commemoration began in the late 19th century, leading to a monument completed and dedicated in 1912. The park today combines battlefield preservation, memorialization, hiking trails, and interpretive facilities, and it remains an active public history site through annual Battle of Olustee reenactments, living history programs, and student events.
