Harrodsburg was founded by Capt. James Harrod and 32 men on June 16, 1774. On June 16, 1974, the 200th anniversary of the town's founding was commemorated and a monument was dedicated to James Harrod and his men by Neil Armstrong, astronaut pioneer to the moon, and Claude Brusse, a direct descendent of James Harrod. The men named with Harrod were Joseph Blackford, John Brown, James Brown, James Blair, Abraham Chapline, William Crow, John Crow, John Clark, John Cowan, James Cowan, John Crawford, Azariah Davis, James Davis, Henry Dugan, William Fields, Patrick Doran, David Glenn, Thomas Glenn, William Garrot, Silas Harlan, Elijah Harlan, Evan John Hinton, John Harmon, James Kerr, Wm. Mortimore, William Mires, Azar Rees, John Smith, Martin Stull, Wm. Venable, James Wiley, and John Wilson.
