Fort Smith Trolley Museum in Fort Smith, Arkansas, preserves the city’s transit and railroad history through an operating heritage streetcar line and a broader collection of historic equipment. Created by the Fort Smith Streetcar Restoration Association, formed in 1979, the museum opened in 1985 and began carrying passengers in 1991 on restored former freight trackage. Its route has expanded from about a quarter mile to about three-quarters of a mile, linking the museum area with downtown landmarks, including the Fort Smith National Historic Site, National Cemetery, and the West Garrison Avenue Historic District. Its collection includes historic streetcars, locomotives, cabooses, and other railroad equipment, with several vehicles listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
