Founded in May 1872, the Methodist congregation in Chico began when Robert Calvin Mount, his wife, and three other pioneers worshiped in a log schoolhouse under the pastorate of the Reverend S.S. Cobb. Mount donated the first church site, and in 100 years the congregation had five successive buildings on five sites.
