On July 19, 1864, the first crossing of Peachtree Creek by Federal 14th A.C. troops took place at the junction of Green Bone Creek, three-quarters of a mile north of here. Two regiments of Dilworth’s brigades, in Davis' division, crossed on a log and were immediately attacked by skirmishers from Reynolds’ and Adams’ brigades of Stewart’s A.C., which guarded the south bank from Howell’s Mills to Nancy’s Creek. After the entire brigade crossed, Dilworth moved south to this hill, where a sharp but brief engagement caused heavy losses on both sides. On July 20, Quarles’ brigade relieved Reynolds, who moved east on Howell Mill Road and took part in the Battle of Peachtree Creek.
