Established on January 1, 1906, Grady County was the original diversified farming county of southeast Georgia. The courthouse and county jail were built in 1908, and the county was organized under the general supervision of its first Board of County Commissioners: Walter B. Roddenbery, chairman; L.L. Barwick, Henry Mitchell, J.L. Peebles, and J.M. Sasser; with M.L. Ledford as county attorney, Alexander Blair as architect, and J.B. Carr Co. as contractor. The county has an elevation of 265 feet above sea level, lies at latitude 30.53 and longitude 84.12, and has an average temperature of 67.5 degrees.
