Little Mountain is a monadnock in southeastern Newberry County, South Carolina, about 25 miles from Columbia and the highest point in the Midlands at 813 feet above mean sea level. Rising roughly 300 feet above the surrounding hills and formed of Carolina slate, it stood out for its isolated height long before modern development. In the 19th century it was known as Ruff's Mountain, and it later took the name of the town incorporated at its foot. Originally part of Lexington County, it became part of Newberry County after a 1917 boundary change. Its summit now carries a radio tower serving Columbia's northwestern exurban area.
