Golden Pond
History
5
Golden Pond was a town from 1882 to 1969, named for a nearby pond that gives a golden reflection from the sunrays. It was originally two settlements, Fungo and Golden Pond, which later became one. The town was twice destroyed by fire and rebuilt, in 1898 and 1936. It prospered from the area's abundant natural resources, including rich valley soils, timbered hills, cool springs, iron ore, and wildlife.
