Built on this site in 1884 by the Columbia Bridge Works of Dayton, Ohio, this bridge was 136 feet long, 22 feet high, and stood 14 feet above the Blanchard River. Its structure was a double intersection pratt through truss, with the double intersection pratt referring to the arrangement of the diagonals and through referring to the overhead lateral bracing that caused travelers to drive through the bridge but over it. The abutments were made of laid up stone with mortar joints. By the time of its removal in 2000, it had served the traveling public for 116 years.
