Horseshoe Lake Ranger Station, in Lassen Volcanic National Park, was built in 1934 by Civilian Conservation Corps labor as the Horseshoe Lake Fireguard Station and Barn. Constructed to National Park Service plan no. 3032 in the Rustic style, it is the park’s only standard-plan backcountry ranger station of its kind. The site originally had a ranger residence and a barn, but only the residence survives. That log building features front and rear porches, peeled-log posts, split-pole chinking, and interior rooms including a living room, kitchen, bedroom, storeroom, attic storage, and two stone fireplaces. Its rarity led to National Register recognition in 1978.
