Major General Sterling Price commanded the District of Arkansas, with an escort of the 14th Missouri Battalion. Brigadier General James Fleming Fagan commanded Fagan's Cavalry Division of three brigades. Brigadier General William Lewis Cabell commanded Cabell's Brigade, which included the 1st Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, 4th Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, 7th Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, Gunter's Arkansas Cavalry Battalion, Harrell's Arkansas Cavalry Battalion, and Blocher's Arkansas Battery. Brigadier General Thomas Pleasant Dockery commanded Dockery's Brigade, which fought Colonel Powell Clayton at Mt. Elba on March 30, was repulsed and forced to retreat to Monticello, and reached Prairie D'Ane on April 6 or 7 with General Price; not all his men were mounted, and his brigade was small. His command included the 18th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, 19th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, 20th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, and 12th Arkansas Infantry Battalion. Colonel William A. Crawford commanded Crawford's Brigade, which included the 3rd Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, Crawford's Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, McMurtrey's Arkansas Cavalry Battalion, Poe's Arkansas Cavalry Battalion, Wright's Arkansas Regiment, and Hughey's Arkansas Battery. Brigadier General John Sappington Marmaduke commanded Marmaduke's Cavalry Division of two brigades. Colonel Colton Greene commanded Greene's Brigade, which included the 3rd Missouri, 4th Missouri, 7th Missouri, 8th Missouri, 10th Missouri, and Harris' Missouri Battery. Brigadier General Joseph O. Shelby commanded Shelby's Brigade, which included the 1st Missouri Battalion, 5th Missouri, 11th Missouri, 12th Missouri, Hunter's Regiment, and Collins' Missouri Battery. Brigadier General Samuel B. Maxey commanded Maxey's Cavalry Division of two brigades. Gano's Brigade arrived at Prairie D'Ane on April 7. Walker's Choctaw Brigade did not arrive until April 12 and participated in the rearguard action at Moscow. Maxey's Division was in the Battle of Poison Spring on April 18 and returned to Texas on April 27. Colonel Charles DeMorse commanded Gano's Brigade, which included the 29th Texas, 30th Texas, 31st Texas, Welch's Company, and Krumbhaar's Texas Battery. Colonel Tandy Walker commanded the Choctaw Brigade, which included the 1st Regiment and Second Regiment.
