The McAdory House was a cotton plantation house dating to about 1840 on about 2,000 acres. Built by Thomas McAdory, Jr., its pioneer architecture was in the dog-trot style and was constructed of numbered hand-hewn logs and wooden pegs. Robert McAdory, the first mayor of Bessemer, and Dr. Thomas M. Owen, a founder of the Alabama State Archives and Department of History, were born there.
