This popular trail climbs to the unique summit formations the Cherokees called "Duniskwalguni," meaning forked antlers. Mountain people thought the twin pinnacles of quartzite and slate resembled the tops of chimneys breaking through the trees. Up close, the rocks are surrounded by mosses, mountain laurel, and rhododendron, and for those willing to make the climb, the view of the Sugarlands Valley is rewarding. The distance to Chimneys is 2 miles, with a climb of 1,700 feet and an average round-trip hiking time of 2-3 hours.
