Tucson, Arizona, is home to the nation’s largest cacti, the giant saguaro, a universal symbol of the American West. Found only in a small portion of the United States, these majestic plants are protected by Saguaro National Park on the east and west sides of modern Tucson, where enormous cacti can be seen silhouetted against a desert sunset. Winter daytime temperatures range from the low 50s to the high 70s, while summer temperatures range from the mid-90s to the low 110s. In late spring and summer, interpretive programs in Saguaro National Park are offered only on an intermittent basis.
