Eight years after flood waters of the Mississippi River washed away most of Valmeyer, Borsch Park remained as a cherished place filled with memories. Since its construction in 1959, the park had provided many pleasant hours of use, and many of those good times came during the last 30 years with the Valmeyer Midsummer Classic. Throughout that time, the Floarke name was familiar around the park on the field, off the field, and in the stands. Floyd Floarke, Sr., a devoted Lakers fan and constant presence at the Midsummer Classic, was remembered as a true baseball enthusiast who could watch one of his children turn a 6-4-3 double play while listening on a radio to news of his favorite Cardinal player. After his death, his memory and the time shared with him were honored by naming the newly renovated pavilion at Borsch Park for him.
