Courthouse Wash Pictographs, in Arches National Park north of Moab, preserves about 100 meters of rock art along a sheltered sandstone wall near the Colorado River. Created over many centuries, the site includes large Barrier Canyon Style painted figures believed to be between 1,500 and 4,000 years old, later Fremont incised images dating to about AD 1000 to 1200, and still later horseback figures attributed to Navajo or Ute artists after horses reached the region. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1976, the site is significant for preserving imagery from multiple communities across thousands of years in one place.
