As British troops marched west along Ford Street from State Street, they reached a store on the south side of Ford near what used to be Isabella Street and entered a storeroom used as an arsenal. There they were confronted by a young Canton boy named Jones, who, though greatly outnumbered, raised his musket and fired into their midst, severely wounding one soldier. As he began reloading to fire again, the enraged troops answered with a deadly volley. One British soldier then charged the wounded boy with a raised bayonet, stabbing him and pinning him to the store counter.
