On August 17-18, 1940, in Ogdensburg, President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Prime Minister of Canada the Right Honorable William Lyon Macenzie King announced the intention of their two countries to cooperate in the defense of the North American continent in a declaration known as the Ogdensburg Declaration.
