In Selmer’s historic downtown, Meskers are storefront facades made from metal, cast iron, and cast steel dating from the 1880s to 1910. Their features include rosettes, fleur-de-lis, hanging wreaths, and recessed doorways. The Selmer Meskers have been identified, numbered, and listed in the database of the Illinois historic preservation agency, and examples can be found at 133, 137, 141, 160, 157, 120, and 124 Court Avenue.
