Grace Moore, an internationally famous star of grand opera, Broadway musicals, motion pictures, the concert stage, radio, and recordings, was born on December 5, 1898, in Cocke County in East Tennessee. She grew up in Jellico, sang in the First Baptist Church choir, and was captain of the Jellico High School girls basketball team in 1916. She loved Jellico and gave the town worldwide recognition and renown.
